Our u12B team emerged victorious this morning in the first round of the WDSL Shield, overcoming challenging windy conditions on the Rocky Road to secure a well-deserved win against Shillelagh.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, the strong wind made it difficult for Rovers to create clear-cut chances. Shillelagh capitalized on the conditions, scoring directly from a corner midway through the first half.
However, Rovers regrouped in the second half and took control of the game. Their persistence paid off when captain Larry Donnelly unleashed a spectacular 30-yard strike that flew into the top corner. The winning goal followed soon after, as a brilliantly delivered corner from Zach Hillman was deflected into the net by a Shillelagh defender.
Despite some late pressure from Shillelagh, Rovers held firm to secure their place in the next round of the WDSL Shield. It was a fantastic team effort, with every player contributing to the victory in challenging conditions.
Thanks to Shillelagh for a competitive and spirited match.
