Despite miserable weather conditions at Whitegates last night, Wicklow Rovers' Premier team secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Arklow United, making it two wins from two to start the season.
The match, played in torrential rain and strong winds, saw both teams struggle to maintain possession and create clear-cut chances. However, just like in their season opener against Greystones, Rovers' determination and resilience shone through as they battled the elements and a tough Arklow side.
The breakthrough came when Lorcan Sinnott, who also scored a brace in the previous match, found the back of the net, giving the home side a crucial lead. This time, it was Tom Smullen who added a second goal to secure the victory for Wicklow Rovers, taking over the scoring mantle.
It was another gritty performance from the Rovers, who showed great character and teamwork to overcome the challenging conditions and a determined Arklow United. This win puts them in a strong position early in the season, and they'll be looking to carry this momentum forward.
