U13As Triumph in Thrilling Away Encounter Against Arklow Utd!
Our U13A squad hit the road this evening, journeying down the M11 to face Arklow Utd under perfect football weather. The match lived up to the conditions, with both teams starting brightly and battling for every inch of the pitch.
Rovers had opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half, but a combination of the Utd keeper's heroics and some near misses kept the scoreline level at the break.
The second half saw the Rovers finally find their breakthrough, with Mikie O'Neill expertly finishing a well-placed AJ Long pass into the box. Long then scored a screamer and nearly ripped the net with a bullet of an effort from outside the box minutes later.
Arklow, however, didn't back down and halved the deficit with 10 minutes remaining, converting a corner kick opportunity. They then nearly equalized with a powerful free kick that shook the Rovers' crossbar.
But the Rovers weren't finished yet! With minutes remaining, Simon Lynch played a perfectly weighted through ball to O'Neill, who burst through the defense and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to secure a 3-1 victory for Wicklow.
This was a solid performance all around, and a result that the boys thoroughly deserved after some recent strong displays that unfortunately didn't yield the desired outcomes. We extend our thanks to Arklow Utd for a fantastic game and wish them the very best for the rest of the season.
