A tale of two halves at Whitegates this morning when Aughrim Rangers rolled into town to take on our U13A's.
Rovers burst out of the gates and found themselves 3-0 up within the first 15 minutes of the game. Goals from Mikie O'Neill, Jack Collins and Simon Lynch with slick assists from Daniel Clarke and Jamie McGowan had Rovers firmly in the driving seat. Rover's stopper Ben Morrissey keep Aughrim at bay with a fine finger tip save at the end of the first half to ensure a three goal cushion at half time.
Aughrim started the second half stronger and soon found themselves on the score sheet after some fine build up play down the left. Two minutes later they had their second after it was judged that the ball had crossed the line despite the protests from the Rovers rearguard.
The equalizer followed minutes later and then Aughrim found themselves one in front after they slotted home a penalty that the Rovers rearguard were very disappointed to see awarded against them. After this frantic 10 minutes, Rovers steadied the ship but couldn't convert chances to equalize.
Aughrim landed the sucker blow when scored on the break with only minutes remaining to settle the match. An eight goal spectacular for all attendees and we look forward to hosting Aughrim again in a couple of weeks time
