Wicklow Rovers U13C provided another entertaining display this morning at home to Carnew B. Rovers started with intensity from the start and scored in the 2nd minute. A brilliant corner was played into the middle of the box. Locky Mathews used his strength and powered a header to the back of the net. Rovers continued this intensity and pressure for the remainder of the half. They created several good chances but the Carnew defenders managed to keep the score at 1-0 by half time.
Rovers continued this good play in the second half and we're rewarded in the 8th minute of the half. A brilliant ball was played into the box to Finn Malone. His shot was blocked and the ball fell to Kai Jameson who calming slotted the ball to the keepers right. Rovers continued to press and squandered a number of chances.
The Carnew keeper played his part and made a number of important clearances. With 15 minutes left Carnew attacked down the left hand side. With the situation appearing under control, their winger was fouled. Carnew scored from the resulting free kick, an unstoppable thunderbolt high into the corner of the net. Following this Carnew created another chance, this time down the right.
A shot looped over the Wicklow keeper but was brilliantly cleared off the line by Aaron Lynn. Rovers then regained their composure and finished the game on the front foot, creating more chances and pinning Carnew into their own half. The game ended with Rovers winning 2-1.
A well deserved result in what was probably their performance of the season. A great squad effort. Notable performances from man of the match Aaron Lynn, Lochlainn Mathews, Daniel Brennan and Federico Caruso. Thanks to Carnew for travelling for the early kick off and playing their part in an entertaining game.
