Our U14s faced a tough challenge last night (September 5th, 2024) against Aughrim Rangers at Allen Park, ultimately falling 3-2 in a closely contested match.
Despite some promising early opportunities that went begging, the Rovers found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime, thanks in part to a spectacular save from the Aughrim keeper to deny Luke Connolly's powerful volley.
Aughrim extended their lead early in the second half, but this seemed to ignite the Wicklow lads. Dan Connolly pulled one back, and Ronan Wynne, who was outstanding throughout the second half with his tireless work rate, levelled the scores at 2-2.
The game hung in the balance, with both teams pushing for a winner. Unfortunately, Aughrim found the decisive goal late in the match, securing a 3-2 victory.
Although the result didn't go our way, we're incredibly proud of our U14s for their spirited performance and the way they rallied in the second half. The positive energy and encouragement among the team were inspiring.
A big thank you to Aughrim Rangers for their hospitality and a truly exciting game of football.
