It's with great sadness that the club has heard of the sad passing of Pat "Sting" Kavanagh.
Sting was one of our club's true legends and arguably the best footballer to ever grace the colors of Wicklow Rovers AFC, known countrywide for his unbelievable skills on the pitch.
He won every major honor with the club on several occasions. He was also part of the Wicklow League historical Oscar Traynor winning team. Pat was unbelievable on the football field; there were times when people thought the ball was glued to his feet, such was the control he had on the ball.
An absolute talent on the field and a gentleman off the field. A man who enjoyed life to the full. Pat will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, everyone who had the honor of playing alongside Sting, and our supporters who watched him in amazement as he proudly represented our club. Everyone would like to extend their sincere sympathies to Pat's family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Trish, son Eddie and his partner Nikkie, son Patrick and his partner Shaunna, daughter Christine and son-in-law Keith and his seven grandchildren, Tara, Nathan, Cara, Nadia, Tia, Calvin, and Oisín. Also missed by his younger brothers, Billy, James, Terry, Bren, Nicky, and Johnny and his sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Sting, may you rest in peace.
