Our U13C team travelled to neighbours Rathnew B this morning. Rathnew started the brightest and used the wind advantage to pin Rovers inside their own half. After a succession of attacks and corners, Rovers found their groove. After 12 minutes, Rovers broke down the right and Federico Caruso was found on the edge of the box. He calmly brought the ball into the box and dispatched an unstoppable shot to the corner of the net. Rovers were again under pressure following this, however the defence continued to keep Rathnew at bay. Then following a Rovers period of possession in the opposition half, centre half Ryan Cassidy stepped into midfield with the ball, took the ball to the end line, rounded two defenders and powered past the Rathnew keeper. In the second half, Rovers now with the wind, pressed to add to their lead and were unlucky not to score straight after the resumption. The deserved third goal came when man of the match Jamie McGowan unleashed a shot from distance which left the Rathnew keeper helpless. Rathnew didn't give up and scored two goals midway through the half. They almost equalised too, but Daniel Brennan cleared a shot off the line. Will McConnell dropped back into the defence and was instrumental in keeping Rathnew out.  Rathnew played right to the last whistle, but Rovers held on and the game finished 3-2 to Rovers.
In what was a good squad performance, there were notable performances from Will McConnell, Luke Mulhall and Ryan Cassidy. Big thanks to Rathnew for a good game.
