The club ran its first "Futures In Mind " under 13 football tournament on Bank Holiday Monday. The day was in honour of past club man Richie Quinn. Teams from Wicklow Rovers AFC, Shankill FC, Newtown Juniors, Arklow Town, Arklow United and Glencormac United were all participating in the tournament for this worthy charity. A feast of football was on show with every team and club coming to support this worthy charity and providing the watching spectators with some exciting football. Shankill FC came out on top in the premier cup with Pool Rovers claiming the premier trophy. On the day everyone were winners.A big thanks to all the above mentioned clubs, their players, coaches and parents for supporting the day in such large numbers. The day was finished off with a coaches match between Wicklow Rovers and Shankill FC. This game proved to be an exciting tussle, with the Dublin side coming out on top in a five goal thriller winning 3-2. With the game in the balance Wicklow Rovers playmaker Cormac Finn was sent through one on one with the keeper but he saw the whites of the keepers eyes, fluffed his lines and chipped his effort high and over the bar, an effort fitting of the hallowed turf of Croke Park. He claims the ball bobbled on the pitch and had nothing to do with his Dublin roots. Shankill went on to win the game narrowly. Some other people we would like to thank for making the day a huge success. Firstly we would like to thank our referees Mark Wynne who kindly gave his services for the day, also Ross Byrne, Cormac Finn, and Stephen Kavanagh who did an excellent job as the men in the middle. Thanks to the coaches of the Rovers teams who helped out on the day. Garry Collins, Christina Kavanagh, David Mulhall, Tom Foley, and Ger O'Malley who all done a fantastic job with their teams. Our tuck shop was well ran by our ladies of the club and their helpers, big thanks to Suzanne Quinn, Amanda Daye, Stephanie Sloan, Suzanne Lawlor, Kiara Kavanagh, Maria Eaves, Olivia Carey, and Angela Gough who made sure everyone was fed and watered throughout the day, thanks ladies. A massive thanks to Stephen Eaves, who helped with everything and organised the coaches match. Thanks to Stephen Clarke, who was at the heart of everything, keeping the matches flowing and efficiently and keeping everyone updated as the tournament progressed. Thanks to Corinna Collins, Trevor Conyard, and Anthony Earls, who were on hand to help around the grounds on the day. Thanks to Johnny Dunne for marking and setting out the pitches for the day. Once again, a big thanks to everyone from the club, Shankill FC, Newtown Juniors, Arklow Town, Arklow United, and Glencormac United for your support, it was very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, no matter how small it was, every bit helps. Finally, but not least a massive thanks to Alan Dunne and Bank of Ireland who sponsored the event, your support for the occasion was very much appreciated by everyone, thanks Alan and Bank of Ireland. A very successful day for a very worthy charity, thanks everyone.
