Our under 13A's returned home from the Blackpool Cup with an important 4-2 away victory over Arklow Utd this evening. Rovers opened the scoring as early as the 9th minute when Mikie O'Neill found Finn Murphy, who cooly rounded the keeper and slotted into the net. The lead only lasted two minutes when the Arklow winger broke down the left and placed an excellent finish over the head of the Rovers keeper. Rovers went in front again on 20 minutes when Hank Murnane picked out O'Neill to tap home. The second half started brightly for the away side when an AJ Long corner found an unmarked Jack Collins to head Rovers into a 3-1 lead. But this didn't deter United who stuck at it and with only minutes left, and a bit of pinball in the box following a corner, reduced the deficit to just one goal. In the final minute Daniel Clarke took possession of the ball in midfield and found Long wide on the right wing. Long's looping effort into the box deceived everyone and restored the Rovers two goal cushion. Thanks to Arklow Utd for the game and we look forward to meeting again later in the season.
