Our under 13C team took on neighbours Rathnew B at Shamrock Park this morning in the Cup quarter final. Rovers started on the front foot and created a couple of chances, but were hit with a goal on the break from Rathnew. Rovers went for the equaliser straight from the restart and were rewarded when Paddy Donnelly picked up a loose ball and slotted past the Rathnew keeper. Rathnew then responded and scored shortly after the restart. Rathnew were then awarded a penalty, which was brilliantly saved by Loukas Karamalis. Rovers had their own penalty just before half time, but the Rathnew keeper stood big and saved it. 2-1 at half time. Rovers probed for the equaliser from the off in the second half but couldn't find the final killer ball. With ten minutes remaining, Rovers pushed upfield, trying to get the levelling goal, but left themselves exposed at the back and Rathnew scored three more goals. The result was a bit harsh on the lads who gave everything until the final whistle. Thanks to Rathnew for a good cup tie and good luck in the semi-final.
