Our senior A team welcomed old friends Arklow Town to Whitegates tonight for a quarter final clash in the Wicklow cup. Over the years the two clubs have been involved in some titanic tussles and another intriguing clash was on the cards tonight. Rovers were on the front foot from the off and controlled the territorial possession pushing Arklow back. On eighteen minutes Rovers were rewarded for their early pressure when Davy O'Sullivan proved clinical in front of goal to put Rovers one up. The lead didn't last long, a minute later Arklow were level but it was more of Rovers own doing than Arklow forward play. Rovers got caught in possession on the edge of their six yard box leaving the Arklow striker with an easy finish to level matters. Rovers regained their composure and the lead on the half hour mark with Davy O'Sullivan rattling home his second of the match. With time running out in the first period Oussama Kemouche went close to increasing the lead but his shot was narrowly off target. Rovers went in at the break deservingly 2-1 up but with their dominance in that first half probably should have been more comfortable on the scoreboard. The second half was nine minutes in and that man Davy O'Sullivan again hit the back of the net, he combined with Oussama and then coolly wrong footed the Arklow defence to slot home his hat-trick goal to make it 3-1 and put Rovers in a strong position. To Arklow's credit they had other ideas and within two minutes they pulled one back from the penalty spot, 3-2 and game on. Rovers surrendered the territorial advantage to Arklow as they pushed looking for an equaliser. In the 75th minute they went close but James Kavanagh in the Rovers goal was equal to it. Rovers were still creating chances and Lorcan Sinnott was unlucky to see his curling effort from the right just drift the wrong side of the post. Disaster struck Rovers in the 85th minute when Arklow popped up with an equaliser,  3-3 and we seemed to be heading for extra time. This shock seem to wake Rovers from their slumber, with the clock ticking to the 90th minute Davy O'Sullivan ghosted past a defender on the left, got to the end line and his superb cross picked out his strike partner Lorcan Sinnott coming in at the back post, it wasn't an easy chance and young Lorcan showed coolness and calmness beyond his young years to fire a first time effort into the bottom right hand corner past the despairing dive of the keeper to put Rovers 4-3 up. There were six minutes of injury time, which Rovers saw out to progress to the semi finals. Rovers controlled the game for the majority of the game, but Arklow's never say die attitude kept them in the game right up till the end. It was a good all round performance from Rovers apart from that last twenty minutes when they sat back and let Arklow come at them. The twin strike force of Davy O'Sullivan and Lorcan Sinnott were a handful all night for Arklow. As man of the match goes, you can't overlook Davy O'Sullivan. Three excellent finishes for a clinical hat-trick and a superb run and assist for the winner in the last minute, plus his work rate leading the line was a joy to watch. Well done lads on a great result and thanks to Arklow Town for yet another tough tussle.
