The U13C team travelled to Finn Park this morning for the latest game in Division 2. Played in perfect conditions, Rovers had most of the play for large periods of the first half but didn't make it count. St Anthonys scored first, a breaking ball landing at the feet of their midfielder who shot from the edge of the box, over the stranded Wicklow keeper, Loukas Karamalis. Rovers pressed on but couldn't find the equaliser before the break. St Anthonys created several openings, but were thwarted by Karamalis and the Rovers defenders. Early in the second half, Rovers got a deserved equaliser through Cayden O'Malley, following great work from Federico Caruso. They then hit the front, again through O'Malley, who left the keeper with no chance. Rovers had their chances to extend the lead, but they went agonisingly wide. Then St Anthonys were awarded a controversial penalty, which was brilliantly saved by Karamalis. Rovers did get the deserved third goal with time ebbing away, a great counter attack goal. A series of first time passes opened up the space in midfield, O'Malley picked up a pass from Cian Collins and headed for the Kilcoole goal. He beat two defenders and slotted it past the keeper to complete his hat-trick. Despite St Anthony's pressure in the final five minutes, they could not find a way past the Rovers rearguard. Great performances from all the team, but especially Man of the Match Cayden O'Malley, the ever dependable Loukas Karamalis and Gerry Connors. Thanks to St Anthonys for an entertaining game played in good spirit.
