The under 12A’s took on Newtown Juniors this morning and looked comfortable from the outset, piling the pressure on the Newtown defence from the first whistle. The pairing of Newsome and Noctor caused havoc up front, with the ball been fed in from a strong 4 man midfield. Newtown were camped in their own box for much of the first half, but a break in play in the first quarter led to a Newtown penalty as Rovers scrambled to halt the attack. The lead was short lived, with Rovers again piling on the pressure, and Jamie Noctor slotting home from inside the Newtown box to go level. Rovers regrouped at half time and resumed their dominance, uphill and into the wind in the second period. Another massive performance from the unasumming Hugo Bradshaw, was rewarded with a goal for the Marlton Springs marvel just inside the third quarter. Fitness levels were tested in the poor conditions, but the Sun came out with 10 minutes left, just in time for a 30 yard screamer from a Jaime McGowan free kick, leaving the Newtown keeper with no chance between the sticks. This sealed the deal for Rovers. A well deserved win for the Green and Whites for a team beginning to build in confidence. Some solid performances from the centre half pairing of Hughes/Costello, Hunter Hennesey in goal and new signing Ben Murphy. Rovers take on Rathnew at Whitegates on 6 April, which is anticipated to be an epic battle. Thanks as always to the parents for their support in the wind and rain🟢⚪️🟢
