Our WDFL C team took on Arklow Town at Whitegates this afternoon. The lads were looking for a repeat in the result of the first fixture between the sides won Rovers won 2-1.
Arklow started the game the better side, but two goal-line clearances from Fionn Matthews and Shane Lincoln kept the scoreline 0-0. Rovers then took over the game playing some brilliant football and got their reward when Fionn Matthews buried his chance from a corner to put Rovers 1-0 up. Rovers continued to dominate the game, hitting the crossbar twice before Arklow scored the equaliser against the run of the play to make it 1-1 just before half time.
Rovers came out the second half and continued playing great football. After 55 minutes, Trevor Conyard cut the ball back to Ronan Earls, whose effort was saved, but Alex Earls buried home the rebound to put Rovers back in the lead at 2-1.
Arklow then had their spell in the game for the next 20 minutes, but the Rovers backline were brilliant all game. Rovers saw out the last period of the game relatively comfortably and got their second win of the season against Arklow. Well done lads.
