The senior ladies took on premier side Bree United in the second round of the Wexford Cup this afternoon at Whitegates. The girls went into the game very much the underdogs as their opponents ply their trade three divisions above them. The girls set about their job in impressive style and it was no surprise when they went in front when Molly Sweeney raced through to slot home into the bottom right corner for her 18th goal of the campaign. This goal saw Rovers go in at the break leading 1-0 and in a great position to spring a surprise. The second half saw Rovers push on and Molly Sweeney added her second of the game and 19th of the season with a beautifully executed lob over the keeper and Edwina Sayer fired home her second of season to see Rovers increase their lead to 3-0. It was an excellent all round team performance from the girls. A special mention goes to Rovers keeper Amy Kavanagh, at 2-0 in the match Amy pulled off a fantastic save from a penalty which was the springboard for the girls to go on and claim a notable scalp in the cup. A 3-0 victory over a premier team and a spot booked in round three of the Wexford Cup, a job well done. Well done Paul, Tom and the ladies, great result.
