Our under 12A's entertained Ashford Rovers at Whitegates this morning. A dominant Wicklow team were unlucky to go behind through an Ashford penalty midway during the first period. The lads had a number of chances to equalise through some excellent link up play from the solid wing pairing of Jamie Noctor and Hugo Bradshaw, and centre forwards Ryan Newsome and Jacob Birrell. The Green and Whites showed patience and faith in their ability and began to pile the pressure on Ashford from the start of the second half. Two penalties were awarded to the Rovers of Wicklow in quick succession, Jaime McGowan stepping up to fire both into the roof of the net past the Ashford keeper. The hammer blow came in the final quarter with captain Sam Reade capitalising from a corner, smashing the ball into the top corner with his left boot. Ashford were awarded a penalty with six minutes left but couldn't find the net on this occasion. Ashford did nab a second, but Wicklow saw it out for a 3-2 victory. Overall, Wicklow looked most comfortable on the ball throughout the game, with some really impressive combinations and passages of play. Notable performances from Kai Hughes, link up play between Noctor, Bradshaw, and McGowan, with an exceptional performance again from Caden O’Brien in goal. The lads will enjoy a break for Paddys weekend, returning for an away fixture against Newtown on the 23rd. Thanks to all the support today, much appreciated💪🟢⚪️🟢
