WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 3rd MARCH 2024

The weather was the winner at the weekend, after the heavy snow and rain on Friday and into Saturday morning we were left closing our pitches which was a common theme throughout the county. We didn’t manage to get even one competitive game played with only non-competitive games beating the weather. The whole WDFL program was postponed in the interest of health and safety. We go again next week.

The club are running their annual Easter camp again this year, the camp will take place from Tuesday 2nd of April to Thursday 4th of April. The camps will run from 10am to 2pm daily and takes place at Whitegates. Cost of the camp is €45 with a reduction for families with two or more kids. All kids should bring a packed lunch, drink, football boots, shin guards and rain jacket.

The club’s under 14B team are currently looking to add to their squad. If you were born in 2010 and are looking to play football, why not come along and play for our 14B team. If you are interested in playing, please contact team manager Terry Lawless at 087-7824144.

The club are currently taking part in the Tesco Community Fund, this is where you receive blue tokens after you’ve paid for your shopping in Tesco, and you then place the blue tokens in the plastic container of your choice when your leaving Tesco. We ask all our members, supporters and friends in sport if you could please support our club by placing your tokens in the plastic container marked Wicklow Rovers AFC. Your support would be very much appreciated by everyone at the club, thank you so much.

Just a reminder walking football for 55+ takes place on the astro pitch at Whitegates every Wednesday morning. It kicks off at 11am and is open to men and women. The event is completely free and ran by Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership. Come along and enjoy the fun of walking football while also meeting other people, it’s a great way of getting fit plus a good social outlet. You can register on arrival, see you on Wednesday mornings.

The club’s weekly junior football academy continues every Saturday morning [weather permitting] under the watchful eyes of senior club coaches Johnny Dunne and Jimmy Nolan. The academy takes place on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years. It is a very good way for the kids to interact with others, all the kids are put in their relevant age groups and its open to boys and girls. Everyone is welcome to attend.
