The U13C team took on Ashford Rovers under the lights at Whitegates this evening. Ashford were on the attack from the first whistle but found Loukas Karamalis and his defence in fine form. It was 0-0 at the break but Ashford moved up the gears in the second half. A period of pressure immediately after half time led to a penalty for Ashford. Loukas Karamalis was not to be beaten though, diving to his right to produce an excellent save. Ashford kept searching for the opener, which eventually came when the ball wasn't cleared out of the box and fell to the Ashford attacker. Wicklow went in search of the equaliser and created a couple of half chances but couldn't find the net. Then with time ticking away, the Ashford no 11 picked the ball up 30 yards out and dispatched a shot to the corner of the net past the blameless Wicklow keeper. Wicklow kept going to the end but couldn't find a consolation goal. Best performers on the night were Loukas Karamalis, Cayden O'Malley and Aaron Lynn. Thanks to Ashford for the game and we look forward to meeting again later in the season.
