The U13C team got their league campaign off to a good start this morning with a win over neighbours Rathnew B. On a soggy Rocky Road, the home team coped better with the conditions. Rovers started the game brightly but found the Rathnew keeper in great form. Midway through the first half, Rovers failed to clear a Rathnew attack. The ball broke to their winger, who slotted past the Wicklow keeper, Lukas Karamalis. Karamalis produced a fingertip save shortly after to keep Rovers in the game. This seemed to inspire Rovers, who went in search of the equaliser, which eventually came in the second half. The ball was pinging around the box following a free kick. Cian Collins calmly played the ball through to Federico Caruso, who blasted it into the net. Rathnew pressed for another goal but found Karamalis and the Rovers back four in superb form. Rovers went in search of the winner and got their reward when the ball broke to substitute Finn Malone, who fired into the corner of the net, leaving the keeper with no chance. Rathnew chased for the equaliser, but Rovers held them at bay. A great team performance in tricky conditions. Thanks to Rathnew AFC for a good game and best wishes for the remainder of the season.
