Our senior A team welcomed near neighbours Ashford Rovers A to Whitegates tonight for a first round Wicklow cup game. A spot in round two of the league's premier cup competition was at stake. It was the home team that made all the early running, creating some good openings. On twenty seven minutes they deservingly broke the deadlock when Tommy Smullen got on the end of a corner to blast into the roof of the net. Five minutes later the lads doubled their lead with Lorcan Sinnott getting on the end of a corner, sending a bullet header past the Ashford keeper to make it 2-0. In the aftermath Ashford were reduced to ten men. Oussama Kemouche was causing problems for the Ashford rearguard and on thirty eight minutes he went close screwing his shot wide after a mazy run. Two minutes before the break Oussama Kemouche got his name on the scoreboard when he finished off a five man move to send the lads in 3-0 up at the break. Thirteen minutes into the second period Lorcan Sinnott put the game to bed with his second and the lads fourth with another superb header. There were another two red cards shown in the second period, one for each side in what wasn't a dirty game. With fifteen minutes remaining the impressive Lorcan Sinnott completed his hat-trick to make it 5-0. Two minutes later James Kavanagh was called on in the Wicklow goal, getting down low to push a free kick away at full stretch. Deep into injury time Oussama Kemouche notched his second of the game to complete the scoring and secure a place in round two. In what was a good team performance with several players impressing the man of the match accolade would have to go to Lorcan Sinnott for three clinically taken goals.
