A super start for the U12A squad against a tough Aughrim Rangers team at Whitegates this morning. Both teams were evenly matched until midway during the first half when Rovers edged in front. After some intense build up play Ryan Newsome pounced on a cross from Hugo Bradshaw to break the deadlock. Rovers continued to pile on the pressure and were unlucky not to go 2-0 up through another well worked build up from the centre-halves, out to Hugo Bradshaw on right wing, who began to find cracks in the Augrim defence. Rovers started slowly in the second half but managed to find their rhythm about 10 minutes into the half, a ball dropping nicely for Jamie McGowan just outside the box, curling it into the far corner to put Rovers 2-0 ahead. Rovers began to go through the gears.. Jacob Birell was next on target with a beautifully placed header over the Aughrim keeper, to demonstrate his aerial skills to complete an unbelievable shift for the team. Augrim pulled 1 back before latest signing and super prospect Jamie Noctor struck a fourth and final goal for the green and whites. A lapse in concentration with five minutes left saw Aughrim grab a second, but Rovers were well in charge at that stage. It finished 4-2, with some notable performances from Newsome and Bradshaw. The team got off to the best possible start with three points tucked away in their pursuit of silverware. A massive thanks to Aughrim Rangers for a very competitive game. Thanks as always to all the parents who were there to support the team this morning. Great to see all the support for the team. Lets go Rovers🟢⚪️🟢
