CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 28TH JANUARY 2024
Our senior A team recorded a comfortable 8-3 away win over Glencormac United at Ryders Field on Sunday afternoon. The lads bounced back to winning ways with a very impressive display with every player playing their part in a ruthless performance. Tommy Smullen, Lorcan Sinnott and Oussama Kemouche all hit braces with Mark O’Sullivan and Dan Tarcevskis adding one a piece. The lads will be hoping to kick on from this and go on another unbeaten run.
The senior B team took on Rathnew A in Shamrock Park on Friday night. It proved to be a tough night for the young Rovers team as they came up against a strong experienced village side. Rathnew proved ruthless in front of goal, hitting Rovers for seven. To Rovers credit, they never dropped their heads as they battled right to the final whistle. It's a learning curve for the lads who have been putting in inconsistent performances, but experiences like this will stand them good as they gain the knowledge of playing senior football. Heads up, lads, and go again next week. Thanks to Rathnew for the game, and we wish you well for the remainder of the season.
Our C team took on Glenealy on Saturday at Finlay Park. In the reverse fixture this season, Glenealy ran out 3-0 winners at Whitegates, so the lads were looking for a positive result today after a run of losses. Rovers took their chances in the first half and were 2-0 up after goals from James Byrne and Alex Butler. Glenealy came out strong in the second half and scored twice to level the game at 2-2, which proved to be the final result after a great battle between both sides. A big shout out to Rovers goalkeeper Pat Sammon, who was the MOTM on the day with multiple big saves.
The senior ladies secured three very important points in their quest for the league title when they defeated Curracloe United 4-1 away from home. The girls went about their business in a professional manner to consolidate their position at the top of the table. Louise Corrigan nabbed a brace to bring her tally for the season to fifteen, Molly Sweeney moved on to sixteen in the scoring charts with a single with Edwina Sayer adding a single for her first of the campaign to complete the scoring in what was an excellent all round team performance.
The club is holding an open training session for the under 15 age group [born 2009] for the new upcoming 2024 season. The training session will take place in the Rocky Road on Saturday the 3rd of February and will kick off at 11am. All players are requested to arrive early. Present and new players are welcome to attend. Anyone interested in playing this season and are unable to attend on this date should contact Mirko Morgillo on 085-1687979, thank you.

So now is the time to organise the squads for the upcoming season. A message has been put on all the existing team communication groups requesting parents to confirm if their child will be participating this season. Can all coaches within the same age groups please liaise with each other to finalise your squads. All coaches have admin access on the communication groups so everyone will be able to see who is participating in the upcoming season. Once the squads have been finalised, the existing communication groups will be archived, and we’ll set up new groups for the 2024 season. Can everyone please have squads finalised by Friday 19th January as we need to upload the players on their designated team on FAI Net. Please contact our club secretary Stephen Clarke at wicklowroverssecretary@gmail.com directly if you have any queries on the above and the very best of luck to all for the season ahead.
