This game between two high scoring teams was always going to be a battle to see who'd put themselves in a good position for the league. And the game didn't disappoint, Rovers got off to a great start with Niamh O'Brien getting 2 goals within the opening ten minutes of the game.
Oylegate pushed forward with a few long balls over the top but with the back four of Aofie Caffrey, Anne Muprhy, Louise Johnson, and Laura Davis doing well to keep them out. Amy Irwin worked the ball well out on the right-hand side to pass on to Niamh, who played a lovely cross into her striking partner Molly Sweeney to put Rovers 3-0 up.
The ladies looked to put the game to bed in the first half with two more goals (Niamh O'Brien getting her fifth hat-trick of the season so far) and Molly getting a second of the game making it 5-1 at half time.
Oylegate made some changes in the second half, which seem to work as they put more and more pressure on the Rovers defense, it was a mix-up in a clearance that made it 5-2. There was a feeling that Oylegate could come back into this, but with 25 minutes left Rovers got a corner, and Sinead Keogh got on the end of it to put the ball into the back of the net to give them a four goal lead again. Five minutes later there was claims for a penalty after a foul on Lucy McGettigan but the referee waved played on.
Oylegate got another goal with fifteen minutes left in the game. The girls legs grew tired playing their second game this week but dug in deep to see the final few minutes out and claim all three points, keeping them in a good position for the league this year.Speedy recovery to Amy Irwin, who came off at half time with hand injury.
