Our under 14A's took on St Francis FC in Athlone in the SFAI cup second round yesterday. The game was played at the Athlone FC Stadium, Rovers started well and had two missed chances in the first ten minutes. St Francis then pushed hard and got ahead after 15 minutes. Not much more happened in the first half with a much needed team talk at the break for Rovers . Rovers started strong again in the second half and found the equaliser in the early stages with Giorgio Morgillo-Fidyk quick to convert inside the box from a through ball from Cillian Czwalina. Both teams fought hard and the game could have gone either way. With ten minutes left on the clock, the game changing opportunity was on for St Francis when the home team were awarded a penalty for a hand ball but Rovers keeper Ted Hasler had other plans and made a fantastic safe to his right side to keep the game level, saving his second penalty of the season. Five minutes later Rovers got the winner when Wolsey Sloan Kelly tapped home after a series of rebounds in front of the goal from a corner kick. Rovers defended well and even got close to the third goal and brought home a great comeback 2-1 victory. Well done Rovers and a big thanks to St Francis FC.
