Our senior A team faced a tough assignment at Whitegates tonight when they welcomed St Peters. The visitors swept all before them last season winning all four major trophies and so far this season they have won all four games without conceding a goal. Rovers were still pointless after two games so were going in search of a moral boosting result. The opening stages of the game were played around the middle third of the pitch with neither keeper been tested. Then on fourteen minutes Rovers were given a great chance to hit the front when they were awarded a penalty but unfortunately for Rovers the spot kick was saved. Disaster struck as the Bray side punished Rovers immediately when they went down the other to score and go one up. On the half hour mark Rovers had a great chance to equalise but with the goal gaping they failed to hit the target. The sides went in at the break with St Peters one up but Rovers knew they should have been at worse on level terms. The second half started with Mark Johnson's twenty yard effort sailing over. On fifty five minutes Rovers were awarded their second penalty of the game and Dylan Orr stepped up and made no mistake blasting home a deserved equaliser. Rovers were on the front foot seeking the winner but the champions always looked dangerous on the break. With twenty minutes left John Connors rattled the crossbar. Rovers created a couple of half chances but they had goalkeeper Conor Clack to thank for keeping them level with a superb save in the eighty first minute. Rovers had a couple of frees in the danger zone in the dying minutes but didn't take advantage. On the full time whistle the sides were locked at 1-1. A well deserved point for the lads, maybe with the chances they had they could have sneaked it but a draw was probably a fair outcome. Ben Algera, Tommy Smullen and Dylan Orr stood out in what was an excellent all round team performance.
