Our newly formed senior menโs division one team kicked off their season today with a home tie against a good Arklow Town team. In what was an excellent game of football from both teams Arklow took an early lead. A well saved shot by Matthew Keene was followed up by their striker and he poked the ball home. Rovers didnโt drop their heads an equalised within five minutes when hard work by Jamie Gunning paid off to level after a mistake by the Town goalkeeper. Rovers went 2-1 ahead when Jamie Gunning reacted quick to fire home after Adam O'Reilly's effort was saved. The second half saw Arklow go at Rovers and after losing a few players to injury they equalised with ten minutes to go. They nabbed a winner after a free kick struck the post and again their striker was first to react. A tough opening day test for what was most of last years youths team but they gave a good account of themselves in their first game stepping up into senior football. Well done to Arklow who played a good spirited game of football.
