The U12C's made the trip to Arklow Credit Union Park this morning. It really was a game of two halves with the wind playing it's part. Arklow United opened the scoring in bizzare fashion. Loukas Karamalis believed the ball had gone dead, the referee didn't see it the same way and when the Wicklow keeper brought the ball back for a goal kick, the Arklow forward slotted into an empty net. Despite protests, the goal stood. Rovers responded with grit and determination and dominated the remainder of the half and got their reward. Following excellent play down the wing, Kyrylo Kliuchnyk was found in the box and he scored with a fine finish. Rovers heaped on the pressure but couldn't find the second goal before half time. The wind strengthened at half time and throughout the second half, the Rovers defence were under siege. The goalkeeper and defence kept Arklow at bay until the midway point in the half, when they scored what would be the deciding goal. The Arklow attacker hit a fine shot which was brilliantly saved by Karamalis. The defence was outnumbered and Arklow scored from the rebound. 2-1 to Arklow. Rovers never gave up and put Arklow under pressure for the final five minutes, but couldn't find an equaliser. In what was a good team effort, there were excellent perfomances from captain Paddy Donnelly, Cayden O'Malley and Lochlainn Matthews. Well done lads and thanks to Arklow United for a great game.
