A cracker of a Shield semi final was played under the lights at Whitegates when Aughrim Rangers took on our U12A boys in green. Kevin Yan broke the deadlock in the first half after a great steal from the defender and he coolly rounded the keeper to put Rovers one up. Aughrim leveled soon after with a lovely worked goal through the middle of the park that was tucked away beautifully into the corner of the net. But Rovers were ahead again inside one minute of the restart. An excellent move down the left saw Freddie Kavanagh pick out Mikey O'Neill to make it 2-1. Keeper Ben Morrissey found O'Neill on the run again and the Rovers front man slotted his second and Rovers third. just before the half ended, Morrissey and O'Neill hooked up again to make it 4-1. Aughrim heads didn't drop and they scored early in the second half to make it 4-2 and put doubt into Rovers minds. These two teams really went at it for the remainder of the game and O'Neill made sure that Rovers were heading to the final when he completed the scoring to make it 5-2. This was great contest for the large crowd in attendance and great advertisement for schoolboy football. Well done to Rovers and Aughrim on a great game.
