The under 12B team were away to Newtown Juniors 12A tonight in the division 1 shield semi-final. Rovers got off to a slow start which saw them go 1-0 down in the second minute to a quick Newtown throw that caught them flat footed. Rovers battled hard only to be hit for a second goal just on the half time whistle, to go into the break two nil down. Rovers played much better in the second half and pushed Newtown hard, but another breakaway goal had us 3-0 down. Eoghan Quinn made a great run and finished with the goal of the night with an unstoppable right foot effort into the top corner. Rovers nearly got it back to 3-2 near the end when Cian Foley's left foot shot was superbly tipped over the bar by the Newtown keeper. It was not to be but Rovers will take the positives from the game and carry forward into the league on Saturday. Thank you to Newtown for a great game and best of luck to you in the final.
