Our under 14A's entertained Ashford Rovers at the Rocky Road tonight in the semi-final of the Premier shield. The Rovers of Wicklow started strong and had few narrow wide shots until Wicklow broke the deadlock halfway through the first period with a goal from Sam Goodbody. A Wicklow corner which Ashford failed to clear saw the ball fall to Sam and he finished neatly to the bottom corner. We came close to a second when Sean O'Brien hit the bar from a free kick and overall the lads controlled the game well up until the break. The second half was bit more even, Ashford gave their all and attacked with long balls but the defence closed well and Ted Hasler did great on controlling all the long throws that came his way. About a minute before the end of the match we hit the counter attack, Cathal Byrne got in front of the keeper who saved fantasticly but on the rebound Cillian Czwalina followed up and did not miss the open goal and booked a place in the Premier shield final for Wicklow in what was another impressive showing from the team. A big thanks to Ashford Rovers for yet again another competitive outing.
