Our under 16's travelled to Shillelagh this afternoon knowing three points would win them the league. The lads got off to a great start after only three minutes when Charlie Czwalina finished off a brilliant move involving four players. Ten minutes later and Czwalina had his second when Evan Conyard broke down the right after good play from Brandon Battams and Conyard squared to Czwalina who made no mistake from eight yards. Shillelagh got themselves back in the game on the stroke of half time when their midfielder scored a beauty of a free kick. Rovers were still creating good chances in the second half when the same player from Shillelagh struck another beauty against the run of play to level things up. It wasn’t until 20 minutes into the second half when Rovers scored their third and winning goal which would see them claim the league title. Evan Conyard swung a corner in from the right and into the top corner alluding everyone to send the big travelling crowd and players wild. Lorcan Sinnott, Brandon Battams, Alex Earls and Charlie Czwalina all had great chances to put the game to bed but just couldn’t find a way past the Shillelagh keeper. A fantastic hard fought win on the road against their nearest title challengers and three valuable points which sees the lads crowned under 16 premier league champions. Unbeaten all season and having suffered heartbreak in the SFAI south Leinster and Jako cup finals this was a fitting reward for the hard work this group of lads have put in. Congratulations Trevor, Ray and the team on a great success, this success is well deserved for all the hard work from the team and management team.
